when we think of arizona,we often think of that hot, dry, dusty desert environment,but arizona actually has a lot of diversity. in the southern part of our stateyou definitely have those deserts, but up north, it's a little bit different,and you might be shocked at what you see. we're actually going to show you a videoof what it's like to approach grand canyon. if you came to visit us here at grand canyon,this is what you would see. you're making your way,you're at over seven thousand feet above sea levelin a ponderosa pine forest; nothing quite prepares youfor what you see when you come to the canyon's
rim. grand canyon is one ofthe largest canyons in the world, on average it is ten miles wide,it is one mile deep, and it is so longthat you can't even see the entire grand canyonunless you are in a pretty special position. people come from all over the worldto see the beautiful colors within grand canyon,to be able to hike it, to enjoy the scenery. when they are standing here on the rim,they're only seeing a very teeny,
little bit of grand canyon.because, i mentioned before, you have to be in a pretty special placeto see the entire grand canyon. and that space, where you have be,is outer space. in fact, the only peoplewho can see the entire grand canyon are astronauts.because you have to be in a space ship. grand canyon istwo hundred and seventy-seven miles long. an incredibly long park.so when you come to grand canyon, this is a pretty amazing area,you can imagine this makes up the northern part of arizona,two hundred and seventy seven miles long.
